What is Dry Eye Disease?

Dry eye disease occurs when your eyes either:

  • Do not produce enough tears
  • Or produce poor-quality tears that evaporate too quickly

Common Symptoms of Dry Eye:

  • Burning or stinging
  • Redness
  • Blurry or fluctuating vision
  • Light sensitivity
  • Gritty or foreign body sensation

Without proper treatment, dry eye can worsen over time and impact long-term eye health.

Advanced Diagnostics

We go beyond traditional eye exams with a comprehensive dry eye evaluation, which includes:

  • Meibography – Imaging of the Meibomian glands
  • Tear break-up time – Measuring tear film stability
  • Tear osmolarity – Checks salt concentration in your tears

Customized Treatment Options

Your eyes are unique. That’s why we create a personalized treatment plan that may include:

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) for Dry Eye with OptiLight

What it does

IPL is used to help reduce inflammation and improve the function of the meibomian glands, which are essential for maintaining a stable tear film.

How it works

Light energy is applied to the skin around the eyes to help calm inflammatory processes and improve the overall environment of the eyelids and glands.

Key benefits

  • Helps break the cycle of chronic inflammation associated with dry eye
  • Reduces inflammatory activity around the eyelids
  • Supports healthier meibomian gland function
  • May improve gland structure and performance over time
  • May increase tear breakup time, helping tears remain stable longer
  • No downtime

Additional therapeutic effects

  • Helps reduce abnormal blood vessels associated with inflammation and rosacea
  • May reduce the presence of Demodex mites that contribute to eyelid irritation

Aesthetic benefits

  • May improve redness and uneven skin tone around the eyes
  • Can help improve rosacea-related skin appearance
  • Leaves the under-eye area looking more refreshed

What to expect

  • 4 Treatment session spaced 2-4 weeks apart
  • Performed as a series for best results
  • Treatments typically take about 10–15 minutes
  • Gland expression is performed after each treatment

How often

Most patients benefit from a series of treatments, spaced based on their individual condition.

Recovery time

  • Minimal downtime
  • Temporary redness may occur
  • Most patients resume normal activities the same day

Radiofrequency (RF) Therapy with OptiPlus

What it does

RF therapy uses controlled heat to improve the function of the meibomian glands and support the oil layer of the tear film.

How it works

RF energy gently heats the eyelid tissues, helping to soften thickened oils within the glands and improve oil flow.

Key benefits

  • Helps heat and soften clogged meibomian gland oils
  • Improves meibomian gland function
  • Supports the oil layer of tears, reducing evaporation
  • Helps reduce gland blockage that contributes to dry eye

Aesthetic benefits

  • Supports collagen production in the skin
  • May improve skin firmness and elasticity around the eyes
  • Can help tighten the lower eyelid area over time

What to expect

  • 4 Treatment sessions spaced 2-4 weeks apart
  • Warm, comfortable treatment

Dynamic Muscle Stimulation with OptiLift

What it does

OptiLIFT is designed to address lower eyelid laxity and impaired blinking, both of which can contribute to dry eye symptoms.

How it works

Gentle stimulation activates the muscles around the eyes, helping improve eyelid tone and blinking dynamics.

Why this matters

Blinking plays a critical role in spreading tears across the surface of the eye. Incomplete or inefficient blinking can lead to increased tear evaporation and worsening symptoms.

Key benefits

  • Helps improve blinking dynamics and efficiency
  • Supports better tear distribution across the eye
  • Addresses lower eyelid laxity
  • Complements other dry eye treatments

Aesthetic benefits

  • Helps tone the periocular muscles

  • Short, comfortable in-office sessions
  • Typically performed as a series

How often

Commonly completed as a series of treatments spaced about one week apart.

Recovery time

  • No downtime

TearCare for Dry Eye

What it does

TearCare is an in-office treatment designed for patients with evaporative dry eye caused by meibomian gland dysfunction. It helps soften thickened oil in the meibomian glands so the glands can function more effectively.

How it works

Flexible devices are placed on the eyelids to deliver controlled heat to the glands. During treatment, you are able to blink naturally, and the treatment is typically followed by manual meibomian gland expression to help clear blocked oil from the glands.

Key benefits

  • Helps soften clogged oils in the meibomian glands
  • Supports healthier gland function
  • Helps improve the oil layer of the tear film
  • Can reduce tear evaporation and improve comfort
  • Allows blinking during treatment for a more natural treatment experience

What to expect

Treatment is performed in the office and is designed to be comfortable. After the warming portion of the treatment, the glands are expressed to help improve oil flow.

How often

Treatment frequency depends on the severity of your gland dysfunction, your symptoms, and how you respond to treatment. Your doctor will recommend the schedule that best fits your condition.

Recovery time

Most patients return to normal activities right away. Some temporary tenderness or sensitivity may occur after gland expression, depending on how blocked the glands are.

Lid Exfoliation with ZEST

What it does

ZEST is an in-office eyelid cleaning treatment designed to gently clean the lid margins and lashes. It helps remove debris, residue, and biofilm that can contribute to blepharitis, dry eye symptoms, and irritation.

How it works

A specialized okra-based gel is used to cleanse and debride the eyelid margins under clinical supervision. This helps remove buildup along the lash line that may be difficult to control with home care alone.

Key benefits

  • Helps remove debris and biofilm from the eyelid margins
  • Supports better eyelid hygiene
  • May reduce irritation associated with blepharitis and dry eye
  • Can be helpful as part of Demodex blepharitis care
  • Often paired with at-home lid hygiene to maintain results

What to expect

The procedure is usually brief and performed in the exam room. Mild temporary irritation can occur, but most patients tolerate it well.

How often

Frequency varies depending on symptoms and eyelid health. Some patients benefit from periodic in-office treatment along with a home eyelid hygiene routine.

Recovery time

There is little to no downtime. Most patients return to normal activities immediately.

Demodex Blepharitis

What it is

Demodex blepharitis is a form of eyelid inflammation associated with an overgrowth of Demodex mites on the eyelashes and eyelid margins. A key clinical sign is the presence of collarettes, which are cylindrical waxy cuffs at the base of the lashes.

Common signs and symptoms

  • Itching along the eyelid margins
  • Red, irritated eyelids
  • Crusting or debris at the base of the lashes
  • Dry eye symptoms
  • Ongoing blepharitis that keeps returning

How it is diagnosed

Demodex blepharitis is often identified during an eye exam by looking for collarettes and other signs of eyelid inflammation. Current expert guidance supports treating symptomatic blepharitis when collarettes are present.

Treatment options

Treatment may include:

  • in-office eyelid cleaning such as lid exfoliation
  • home eyelid hygiene
  • prescription treatment when appropriate

The only FDA-approved prescription medication specifically indicated for Demodex blepharitis is XDEMVY, which is used twice daily for 6 weeks.

Why treatment matters

If Demodex blepharitis is not addressed, it can continue to contribute to chronic irritation, lid inflammation, and dry eye symptoms.

What to expect

Treatment is based on the severity of your findings and may include both in-office care and home maintenance. Improvement is often gradual as the eyelid environment becomes healthier.

Our Testimonials

I have been going to Dr Kaur for approximately two years and she has been fantastic in relieving my dry eye discomfort. After having cataract surgery and using eye medication for Glaucoma, I was in constant discomfort from dry eyes. After visiting several doctors, I was still suffering from eye discomfort. One type of eye drop after another and still no relief. Finally Dr Kaur diagnosed my issue and prescribed treatments that alleviated my dry eye discomfort. I no longer suffer from dry eyes. Thank you Dr Kaur!!  – MARY EIKESETH

Loved, loved, loved Dr. Kaur. Very knowledgeable, especially about dry eyes. I learned a lot today and look forward to having her as my eye doctor. Of course she has THE best staff! Let’s not forget about Diesel, her dog. So cute! If there were emojis you would see 2 thumbs up.  – KATHY ANDERSON

I’ve never had an appointment with an optometrist like Dr. Kaur before. From the very beginning until the very end of the appointment she behaved as a true professional: took all possible exams (some of them I never had before), explained me every tiny details and explicitly demonstrated where the issues are. I didn’t have a feeling being under the pressure, lacking of time to reply all my questions or up charges – an extra thanks for that, it still happens nowadays. Another surprise came when she recommended me the exact drops I used to used before living out of the country – we were completely on the same page.  With such a neat and meticulous approach, complete exams and comprehensive recommendations I’m her patient in the future – giving all my trust and credits since the 1st visit.
