Orthokeratology
Orthokeratology (ortho-k) is the fitting of specially designed gas permeable contact lenses that are worn overnight. The lenses gently reshape the front surface of the eye cornea while you sleep. When you wake, the lenses are removed and the patient enjoys clearer vision during the day without glasses or contact lenses.
Ortho-k lenses are prescribed to patients:
- To slow the progression of childhood myopia.
- To correct refractive errors.
Ortho-k lenses are also called “corneal reshaping contact lenses” or “overnight contact lenses” to correct or control myopia. Vision Shaping Treatment or Vision Shaping Therapy (VST) may also be used to describe this innovative process that effectively treats nearsightedness and mild astigmatism.
Corneal Refractive Therapy or CRT uses a proprietary lens design and fitting methodology to reshape the corneal. Although, different than orthokeratology, CRT is used for similar purposes and produces comparable results.
Orthokeratology can be referred to as:
- Ortho-K
- Vision Shaping Treatment (VST) or VST – Contex OK contact lens is used for VST.
- Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT)

No Glasses – No Daytime Contacts
We are so pleased to offer your child an innovative non-surgical vision correction procedure that provides excellent vision during the day without wearing glasses, daytime contact lenses or having vision correction surgery.
The procedure is called orthokerotology (ortho-k) with Paragon CRT Contact Lenses, and it’s FDA approved for all ages. Ortho-k involves fitting your child with a pair of specially designed Paragon CRT Contact Lenses, which are only worn while sleeping each night. You can find out additional information on the Paragon CRT Contact Lens website.
If you can answer “yes” to any of the questions below, I recommend calling our office to schedule an appointment for an evaluation to determine if your child is a candidate for orthokeratology with Paragon CRT contact Lenses.
- Does your child wear glasses or contact while playing sports or participating in other physical activities?
- Do glasses or contacts ever interfere with their activities?
- Are you concerned about potential injuries as a result of your child wearing glasses while playing sports or engaging in physical activities?
- Do you worry that your child is not following proper daily lens care procedures while away from home which could lead to infections or corneal or lens wearing complications?
- Does your child ever complain of sore, red or dry eyes while wearing their daytime contacts?
- I am interested in learning more about a program to manage my child’s nearsightedness (myopia) and would be willing to invest $3-5 a day, for the first year of treatment, and $1-2 a day, for subsequent years treatment.
